My homemade light box

Ok, so I keep hearing about light boxes for taking better pictures.  I looked them up and saw that they could be made fairly simply rather than buying one.  Mine is fairly crude, but it works for me! I added some pictures for comparison as well.  I used and old box and taped it back together.  Then measured (fiance measured for me!) some squares to cut out on three sides of the box.  Then I cut out the squares.  I used an old white t-shirt to cover those squares.  I also draped some of the left over t-shirt as a back drop.

And of course we couldn't start cutting until the kitties had their chance to be in the box!  Like I said...pretty crude, but it works.  I use the super macro mode on the camera.  Here are the comparison shots.

These are with out the box

These are in the box.  I can definitely tell a difference! Have any of you made your own light box?

  1. I'm too lazy for all that! Plus my cats would never leave a box alone-i just use sunshine. But these are much better than previous ones you had on! So very cool that you made your own!

  5. Interesting post! I purchased a light box from amazon but I hated it. I don't use it!

  6. Love your furry helpers! I made my lightbox using a plastic box, white fabric, and two folding lamps. When I'm not using it, I fold up the lamps and put them inside the box and put the lid on.

  7. I made my own light box when I was making jewelry. Now I use it to take photos of makeup swatches and nail polish. The quality in pictures is like night and day! Mine is a little different than yours but it's the same principle.

Have you tried setting your white balance before taking photos? HUGE difference. It took me forever to discover it so I like to pass it on!
